Ken Lacy - Gardening in North Central Washington

NCW Audubon May program

May 8 -- Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center, 127 S. Mission

doors open at 7:00 p.m. , program starts at 7:30

On May 8th Ken Lacy, a Chelan County Master Gardener since 2000, will talk about gardening in North Central Washington. He will focus on the challenges gardeners face dealing with the elements of our region, including heat, wind and possible water shortages. The program will be at the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center with doors opening at 7:00 pm and program beginning at 7:30 .

Ken’s presentation will cover many topics of interest to gardeners throughout the region. First, and probably most important is assessing your landscape and identifying microclimates in your yard. Sun and shade patterns and soil considerations will be discussed and then there are topics of survival for your garden plants. These include mulches, pruning, planting densities, fertilizing and the use of anti-transpirants (which may help conserve water). Ken will also discuss effective watering techniques.

But the big topic of interest is ‘Choosing the Right Plant for the Right Place ’. This will take up half of the program and Ken will have photos of many of the recommended flowers. The audience should leave the meeting with information about many specific plants to meet their own specific needs.

Attendees are invited to join the speaker for informal discussion and refreshments following the presentation. For further information, call Mark Oswood at 662-9087.
